Hi,
My name is Heather and I am the designer and creator of all of the products featured for sale on this website. I am a thirty-something working mum who stumbled on jewellery design and manufacturing completely by accident; here is my story.
My jewellery making began in the summer of 2009; I had seen some gorgeous bracelets for sale for an extortionate amount in a local gift store when we were on holiday.I knew that they would make great Christmas presents, but also knew that I could probably make them cheaper than what they were selling for. So a few months down the line I began researching jewellery and beading and decided to have a go at making charm and glass bead bracelets for all of the female members of my family for Christmas.
In no time at all I had ordered enough supplies to make what I hoped would be at least 10 or 15 bracelets. It was fantastic to open the box and see what I could create with all of the beads and charms that I had bought. I spent the next 3 hours that day happily beading away and by the time I had used up all of my beads I had over 30 bracelets! I was so amazed at how good they looked I wore a couple of them to work the next day. That was the best decision I had ever made, as my supervisor spotted them and when she found out I had made them she wanted some for her family too. Before I knew it I had sold all of my families Christmas presents to my friends at work and had to buy more stock to remake the Christmas presents and fulfil the orders I had!
And that is how Handmade by Heather was born!
As a result of my complete addiction to making jewellery and the new skills I learn all the time, I have now branched out into necklaces, earrings, kids’ jewellery and rings as well as bracelets.
